The Marshall Plan, adjusted for inflation, spent about $120 billion to rebuild West Germany. According to Brown University, the US has spent over $100 billion reconstructing Iraq. Why were efforts to rebuild so much more successful in West Germany, which had many more people?

In the Capitulary de Villis, article 44, it says that two-thirds of the food products other than meat are are to be sent each year for royal use. Is this just a rule for the realms of stewards, or general law? Was this kind of large tax burden normal, and if so, what was done with all that food?

How did people outside of Russia feel after the revolutions? Was there a general worry about this huge and ancient Empire suddenly becoming the first communist state, or was the war seen as the more pressing concern?
