In the Spanish television series "La Casa de Papel", the Spanish government is depicted to torture a member of a robbery gang upon his capture. Are there any documented instances between the end of the Second World War and 2000 in which a Western European government employed torture on a captive?

I've heard a lot of stereotypes that the 16th-17th Century Puritans were very much against dancing, elaborate festivals, commercialism, and any sort of romantic/sexual behavior outside of marriage. Is this actually true, and if so, what did young, single Puritan men and women do to have fun?
