How would someone wearing full plate armor have been killed before the invention of guns?

Could the Polynesians from Hawaii/Easter Island have colonized the west coasts of North and South America in a few more centuries?? Would they have been able and willing to take over the natives? Would there still have been a ton of new diseases being exposed to the natives?
