Is there any historical accounts how exactly things were done when a battle was halted to clear the field of dead & wounded? How was the agreement first reached? Would opposing sides ignore one another even when having to mingle or would they 'cooperate' for duration of efforts?

Napoleon & Stalin - well read in nature, tooth and claw. Both by all biographic accounts were prestigious devourers of fiction & non fiction. Can historians contextualise this capacity to consume books exploring human frailty whilst knowingly sending other humans en masse to be slaughtered?

As the sheer amount of information and evidence regarding current events expands how do you see the role of future historians (of our era onwards) changing? Will the discipline switch to more interpretation and analysis rather than extrapolating, assessing probability and 'piecing together' sources?
