Perikles' Funeral Oration says that Athenians are "unique" in considering the citizen who takes no part in the affairs of the city as totally useless. Surely, Sparta and other places value commitment to the city too. Is this just pro-Athens propagandist bluster?

Reading a lot of older books recently about Knossos. Seems like every modern generation of historians has a new explanation for why the Minoans just suddenly disappeared, but, what's the modern answer/consensus and why does this one particular historical question get flip-flopped on so much?

From what I've read, it seems that Ancient Athens and Sparta both had basically the same language and religion, and both had a military culture. Are the supposed differences just a creation of pop-history/pop-culture?
