After Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, was there any real effort made by anyone to bring back paganism? Were any prominent figures involved in any such attempted revival, and how was the attempt met by the political forces at the time?

In games and movies like Uncharted, Tomb Raider, and Indiana Jones, we see ancient treasures and valuables hidden in tables where every corridor is a deadly trap. Is there any historical bases for such sites being boobytrapped to keep out looters/treasure hunters?
