I have read that in order for some elements of the HUD not to be seen off the screen I have to change to a previous version of the game, what exactly changes from one to another? Is there new content or something or just minor fixes?

Is it normal that the game tells me that I can't use fast travel yet, but if I enter another category in the bonfire and change from it to fast travel, will it let me use it?
