Following World War 2, what was the global reaction to the reinstatement of the Colonial Empires of the newly liberated nations of France and The Netherlands? Was this not seen as hypocritical?

WW2 - Did Japan have to go to war with the U.S.? Couldn't they have gone to war solely with the Dutch/British in order to acquire the resources they needed? After all Hitler did that and the U.S. did not go to war.
