Lava bending can be done by Fire & Earth benders similar to how Mud can be bended by both Earth & Water Benders.During all of ATLA, any remote signs of lava bending involved fire benders, Szeto,Roku even Sozin to some degree.LOK made it earth related.But I see no reason why it can't be both like Mud
