I have a vague recollection of once reading that European settlers saw that South American(?) indigenous peoples used cross symbology and were horrified at the thought that these pagans might have actual divine knowledge. Did this actually happen or am I misremembering?

I donate blood at NIH. Today they sent me an email saying "You have come up as an phenotype matched donor for a patient at the NIH Clinical Center. You are an excellent match for this specific patient." But I'm O+. What differences are there in a single blood type that makes my blood special?
