Why did Jesús become a common name in the Spanish speaking world, but not in other languages with large numbers of Christian speakers like English or Italian?

We know from history that (low/non-alcohol) beer was often drunk because it was safer than untreated water. Where and when did beer first become associated with celebrations, etc. at which inebriation was a known and desirable effect?
