In early 20th Century US, military troops (Army) were typically transported domestically by rail, and overseas by troop ships. Was there a specific conflict that pushed the US Military to embrace airplanes for troop transport? Or was the shift attributable to larger more reliable aircraft?

It is quite apparent Europeans generally have a much stronger social contract amongst themselves, compared to my country (US). The desire to work together, to get along in daily life, to work more for the common good of everyone.
