The air outside is cool, the air inside is warm. Room has two windows. I want to put a fan on one of them to cool down the room. Is it more effective to place it pointing outwards (to suck the hot air out) or inwards (to suck the cool air in)?

Columbus sailed west trying to get from Europe to India. At some point people realized the place he arrived to wasn't India, but a whole new continent that was in the way. Then when did someone actually sail west again to see if they could get from America to India/Asia?
