In the 19th and early 20th century, a lot of the immigrants that came to the US were from Europe, germans, italians, poles, swedes, etc. For example, a lot of germans in particular came to the midwest. Yet in the 21st cenutry , german is not a widely spoken language within the midwest. Why?

Why were bows never used in CQB like with guns today? Why did the tactics of bows and arrows so drastically differ from that of later firearms given they are both range weapons (though one is superior to the other)?
