Deprived of resources after closing the Laurion mines (after the Peloponnesian war), it is said Athens was forced to melt two gold statues of Athena Nike to strike gold coins. But wouldn't the athenians fear retribution from the goddess for doing so?

Was there ever an attempt to stablish a big perfectly round territory? Like using a city as reference and then drawing a much bigger radius (of X hundred miles/km) from it on a map.
