In 1919 Adolf Hitler joined a Red Brigade during the People's State of Bavaria under Eisner. I can find absolutely no information on this online, or anywhere else other than Kershaw's biography. What do we know about his period in Hitler's life? How did Hitler come to join up with Communists?

When did historians start providing copious sources and endnotes to what they said? It seems ancient historians just kind of...stated things without citing specific sources but that's obviously no longer accepted. When did that shift occur?

In his books on the French Revolution Jean-Clement Martin makes the case that the Terror, as it is popularly concieved, never actually happened at all. Can someone who actually knows French and has read all of his works elaborate on the argument, and what other historians think about this?
