After reading the article about the explosion in the Ophiuchus galaxy cluster i got to wonder: if a similar explosion occured for Sagittarius A, would the implications for our planet be slow enough for us to realise what happened or would we be unable to see it coming in the slightest?

Why doesn't the scientific community simply replace the word "theory" in "scientific theory" with another, to avoid future confusion of what science means by "theory" and what the average Joe understands "just a theory" to mean?
