Trying to secretly learn crochet to surprise my girlfriend with a gift- my pitiful first attempts at single and half double crochets :) Any and all advice/tips incredibly welcome!

More work today- practicing turning single and half double crochets. The little blue one is a line of half double crochets in the middle with singles on the edges. Getting fun!
