"In those days, "surgeons operated in blood-stiffened frock coats – the stiffer the coat, the prouder the busy surgeon", "pus was as inseparable from surgery as blood", and "Cleanliness was next to prudishness"" How would this make sense in the light of the miasma theory? Wouldnt everything reek?

We have a lot of ancient poems and stories that are considered complex, beautiful, etc. That is probably why they survived, they were copied more or kept in a safer place. What about bad ones? Are there preserved equivalents of 14 year olds MySpace poems around? Nonsense stories written by kids?
