Why do the Chinese people go back to Confucianism after the Qin Dynasty? Even when the Legalists proved to be more effective during the Warring States Period.

This is a picture of my grandfather from 1940 during his time with the Italian Alpini. I was hoping that some of you would be able to give me information on his uniform. I am trying to find out which unit he was with so that I can track them through the war. Thank you!
