I went to high school in NY in the 80s, but it wasn't until the internet age that I learned about some of the modern injustices committed on black people, e.g. the Tulsa Massacre, Rosewood, the MOVE bombing, etc. What other atrocities have been hidden? Is there a good resource to read about them?

Did the first US citizens adapt easily to the idea that you could openly criticize leadership? Did some citizens think it was wrong to do so, or were they afraid to? Did they trust that they wouldn't be punished? Did all state and local governments embrace the idea of free speech?
