What was contemporary Roman response to the loss of Pompeii in the rest of the empire? Were there theological debates about it? Or letters saying 'Oh did you hear? Pompeii's gone. How about that?" Is there any record of someone having the idea of digging out the city?

Were there any particular historical reasons for the amount of movies and such starting in the late 1970s and early 1980's that had 'Kids on bikes versus evil' as plots/aesthetics? Examples: E.T., Monster Squad, The Goonies, and later examples like Super 8, Stranger Things, Paper Girls.

How effective were aircraft in WW2 at anti-tank actions? In historically based video games like Il-2 Sturmovik, they are devastating. From some more casual sources though, they were 'meh' at best, only really good at attacking softer targets like trucks.

When I was taking my Soviet History classes in college, I learned that apparently the Soviet Union wasn't officially 'communist' but 'Communism was coming.' As in, it wasn't a worker's paradise yet, but with further work, it would be. Was this distinction ever noted outside the Soviet Union?
