Did the massive loss of life in war and famine and purges between the end of the Russian Empire and the end of WW2 (and beyond for some time) change how Russians/Eastern Europeans saw death and individuality? Was there a sense of despair or inevitability that was noticed by observers at the time?

Are there concerns about AI generated 'old' pictures being created to get around rights to images or even to fake events or moments in time? I was watching a youtube history show and saw a picture that looked very much like AI art, and was...concerned.
