Is there a reason we have to "shake well" certain drinks right before we drink them? Why can they not be shaken after they are made by the factory?

If you have a pure ball of H2O in space, and it freezes, and you keep adding to the size of it and becomes moon/planet size, would it ultimately melt and become liquid water due to the pressure exerted on it from gravity or would it simply break apart?
