Why when we burn our skin, not only the burned skin gets red but also the sorrounding skin? Does it suffer any damage too?

There has been researches showing that average IQ is higher in young people than older people. How about the use of language? Does young people express better, have richer vocabulary or have better reading comprehension than older people?
