I was looking at Wikipedia's entry about Mesopotamia and it had a map that showed where arsenic was mined. Other than poisoning people, what use did people in the ancient world have for arsenic?

Apart from the switch from the Articles of Confederation to the Constitution (and perhaps the Civil War, I guess), has there ever been a serious movement in the USA to ever replace rather than merely amend the Constitution?

Both oil lamps and candle lanterns are known from antiquity, but the oldest oil lanterns I'm familiar with are from the early modern period. Did it really take that long for people to have the idea of enclosing an oil lamp as they might a candle? If so, why?
