Much as been made of the concept of slaves in America fleeing north to Canada, which had abolished slavery. How did the Canadians feel about this influx of "immigrants"? Or did so few slaves actually make it to Canada that it wasn't really an issue?

When the Spanish arrived in the Americas, the natives soon began dying by the millions from European diseases. However, the Chinese were not similarly affected by traders that arrived from the Silk Road. Did the Chinese have the same diseases, making them immune, or was there another reason?
