What's actually inside of a piece of amber that appears to have a plant or animal preserved? Is it just an empty cavity in the shape of the animal?

I know that ants release different chemicals that signal specific things to the other ants. If an ant is squished, are the other ants told multiple things at once? Are all the different signals released?
