I have had Chinese people tell me that Tibetan Lamas were traditionally violent, and some would murder peasants and,make objects out of their skin. Is this as baseless as it seems? Is there any historical reason for such negative impressions of Tibetan buddhism in China?

I have heard one of the reasons for the building of New Delhi was as a symbol of the permanence of the British Raj. Did colonial opinion in tge 1920s really believe India would be forever British? When was it ackowledged that Indian independence was inevitable?
