In a molecule like Formaldehyde, the Carbon is said to be sp2 hybridized. Is the oxygen also sp2 hybridized? or does the C-O sigma bond occur between an sp2 lobe from C and a horizontal p lobe from O?

Atoms will emit a photon during an electron transition from a higher shell to a lower shell. Will they emit one if electrons transfer from one subshell to another? (e.g. 2p --> 2s)

Water is unusual in that its liquid form is more dense than its solid form. If water were a more typical substance (where the inverse is true), would the bottom of the ocean freeze from the intense pressures?
