Say I am an author around the 1850's in the USA, and I just wrote a book, and I want it published. How would I go about that? Were there any distinguished publishing companies? Do I just make a lot of copies and distribute them in book stores?

After the fall of the Roman Empire, why did Latin die out? Where there any key people/groups/events that made it die out? Looking at how it was the language of the Romans, I'd assume that people would still speak it as a first language today.

I am a Roman farmer in 285 A.D., when Diocletian divides the empire into two. Are there any major changes initially? How would the general population take the news up being split into two? Would anything major really happen?
