How crazy is it to buy a home without doing a septic inspection? Current system is 12 years old. Previous owner didn't have it pumped, current owner didn't either. Inspection didn't have any sewers backing up. I heard if done right they don't need maintenance? Am I crazy?

HELP: Under contract on a house with septic system. Current owner doesn't know anything about the septic system, which sounds like it hasn't been maintained in 5+ years. Agent recommends a dye test, but I think a sewer scope to locate the tank should be my first step, followed by a septic inspection
