Writing a story and was wondering how realistic this would be: a person is soaking wet from rain, then some highly flammable liquid gets poured over them (gasoline or something idk). Would it be easy to set them on fire with e.g. a cigarette, despite the water from the rain?

Could an object (say, a piece of clothing) that is first drenched in water and then covered in a flammable liquid (say, gasoline) be set on fire? Would it work in favor or against of the flammability if the object absorbs liquids easily?
