Ancient Egypt was dominated by people who believed in a variety of gods (i.e. Ra and Osiris). Is belief in the "old gods" totally wiped out there, or have there been cases of folk traditions (as in Scandinavia) or even believers left over up to the late 20th century?

The Knights Hospitaller (AKA the Knights of Malta) ruled over Malta and its people for nearly 300 years. How did the knights govern? Was the Grand Master a proto-head of state, or did the knights have some kind of special committee to administrate the island, the people, and collect taxes?

In movies we see kings actually leading their forces into battle from the Front Lines. Specifically around the Dark Ages, did this actually happen a lot, if so what kept them from being killed right away by the enemy, and when did kings/leaders commanding forces in-person fall out of fashion?

On Dec. 19, 1836 President Sam Houston of the Republic of Texas relived Robert Coleman of his command of the Texas Rangers. Houston had Coleman arrested, but he was later released. On July 1, 1837 he allegedly drowned in the Brazos River while fishing. Is there any evidence Houston had him killed?

I am the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church and leader of the Papal States in May of 1526. How the hell did my military commanders and the Holy See not notice a rogue army of 20,000 Protestants coming to kill me and raid Rome?

I've seen paintings in history books of monks writing books BY HAND during the Dark Ages - what did the monks do if they made a mistake? Pictures I've been able to find make these hand-written tomes look perfect. Did they have some version of whiteout, or were they just really careful?
