According to Diodorus Siculus, killing a cat in Ancient Egypt was punishable by death. However, kittens were also farmed to be sacrificed and made into mummies. Was there religious exemption for killing cats? How did these seemingly-contradictory things fit into the Ancient Egyptian worldview?
