How likely is it that Plato or Socrates would've heard about or read the Old Testament?

In the Synoptic gospels you have Joseph of Arimathea being given the body of the dead Christ. Why would the body be given to a stranger and not back to Jesus's family? What do we know of the rights of the deceased in first century Roman rule?

Say I discover a piece of music somewhere and it's just the staff with notes and there's nothing else as far as identification. What process does the piece undergo to figure out who composed it and where that piece lies in their respective body of work?
