When I sing opera, I sound good, and I have a lot of control and I can easily belt, but I can't do the same for Pop music, why is that? And what can I do to change it?

So breath support is basically inhaling properly into the lower part of your stomach and abdominal muscles, without pulling your chest and raising your shoulders, and then using some gentle force to slow down the exhalition? Is that correct?
