How was Andorra, a country right inbetween France and Spain with fewer than 200 sq mi / 500 sq km and just 77 000 residents, able to stay sovereign?

In multiple religions/mythologies/folklores, incest and pedophilia was common practice. As far as my religious understanding goes, religion was like a moral guide within past society. So where incest and pedophilia also common in everyday's life of that time?

From 12th to 17th century, the 'Hanse' helped northern Germany to prosperity, while the southern regions remained poor. Nowadays, this seems to have switched (even while focusing on BRD regions only). How did this switch develop?
