Did medieval european cities have some kind of „nightlife“? Were there taverns or other places open through the night? Would you encounter medieval party people stumbling through the streets at ungodly hours? Or would the cities have been deserted after nightfall?

If you wanted to become a monk in medieval europe did they just let you in when you knocked on the door of a monastery or was there some kind of selection process / “background check” in case you were running from the law or something?

Were there actually gangs of outlaws and robbers living in the forests of medieval europe, robbing travelers and plundering villages or is this just a stereotype created by modern fantasy such as DnD?

Why was Miller such a non respected profession during the middle ages in europe? I’d imagine them kinda being the backbone of a medieval society. Why weren’t they more respected then?
