Sword fighting is something that is commonly depicted on TV or movies, where two knights clash swords together, stopping each others blow with the edge of their blade. Afterwords, they are still sharp enough to behead or cut someones hand off. Is this at all accurate? Wouldn't they have dulled?

It's well documented in military use that the tricorn (cocked) hat was worn slightly to the side with the tip over one eye, so as not to get in the way of a shouldered firearm. What were the common ways for civilians to wear this style of hat? Was it mainly "point" forward?
