I'm attached to mercenary Swiss Pike company in the high middle ages. We step through a wormhole and wind up squaring off against a Macedonian phalanx. Forget who wins. Has much changed in the use of a pike? Or are we essentially the same infantry a couple millenia apart?

The "naming" of swords in the Middle Ages is often described in works of fiction both historical and fantasy, i.e. the Last Kingdom and Game of Thrones. Is there any historical basis for this?

Was there a Hellenic/Roman "weekend" in antiquity? The seven day work week based around Jewish/Christian belief wasn't adopted until much later so what did their schedule look like. Did they have an equivalent to the Sabbath? Or was every day business as usual save for a festival?

In Bernard Corwell's "An Archer's Tale", the leader of a company of archer's is knighted just before the battle of Crecy. Is there any record of unusual knighting's such as this? Would this have even been possible for what was seen as a "peasant" soldier?

What was late Medieval/early Modern University life like? Not just for students, but professors as well. Any occurrences of "class will be suspended due to the siege outside the city walls"?
