Imagine a photon moving towards a black hole. It's potential energy is decreasing as it gets closer. What happens to this change in potential energy since the photon's speed cannot exceed the speed of light?

So a particle outside of the Higgs field will not have any mass. Is there a consequence of not being in the Higgs field? Could we remove the higgs field in an area and move at the speed of light?
