Do quarks and other elementary particles have mass? Does the concept of mass still make sense/apply at that scale? Is there a Planck mass, similar to a Planck length, that is the smallest mass something can be?

I understand that light is diffracted by water, glass, etc. because light travels slower through those materials. The part I don't understand is, why does changing the speed of light change its direction?

If we were somehow able to give Mars an Earth-like atmosphere, at what rate would gas escape into space? Would we be able to maintain it on a human timescale?

How long could you survive in space without any protective gear if you held your breath? Long enough to get back inside the ship? What about if you were in a (depressurized) spacesuit?
