I have been told that the us encouraged capitalist economic development in order to ward of communism. Also that west africa maintained ties to the west during the cold war. Thus why did no west african nation try to become an export-led manufacturing economy like asian countries?

Was it common for people to "remember" they were part of the resistance post WW2? Was there any backlash by actual resistance members to the public exaggerating their level of active support for the resistance? Based on the belief that most people supported the resistance only after the war was won
