If pain is a way to alert our bodies to damage and danger, then why can pain be so bad that it physically and/or mentally inhibits our ability to escape the danger? Such as being unable to move or falling unconscious due the the extreme feeling of pain?

Why is water slippery when it's inconvenient? When you're walking or driving, the wet ground can make you slip and cause an injury. If you're trying to hold onto something that's wet, it can slip right out of your hand. But if you want to use water for machine/sex lubricant, it doesn't work? NSFW
