[WP] An alien Armada shows up in the Solar System, they crack open mars to harvest material from the core, and then, as an afterthought, send a message saying they're passing between war-zones and need the material for repairs, then leave. Several centuries later, they come back and reimburse us.

[WP] Due to the rigors of evolution, most intelligent races are built on similar lines: Bipedal, Omnivorous, Sexually-dimorphic, family-oriented, etc. So, when an extra-galactic civilization invades, all the Anthropologists can't be too mad, as they're actually pretty different for once.
