Some graffiti in Pompeii reads: "Floronius, privileged soldier of the 7th legion, was here. The women did not know of his presence. Only six women came to know, too few for such a stallion." Where would this soldier have been regularly based, and for what reason might he be in Pompeii?

I'm an American tourist from New York in London in the year 1800. Accent aside, would my dress, mannerisms, or anything else make me stand out as an American? Could I easily blend in as an Englishman if I didn't speak to anyone?

Portuguese dictator António de Oliveira Salazar called Nazism "pagan Caesarism." I've read other suggestions the Nazis were essentially pagan. Is there evidence some Nazis considered themselves pagans, as opposed to Christians or atheists?

The Nazis believed Slavs were subhumans deserving of slavery and genocide. Why, then, would Slavic countries like Slovakia, Croatia and Bulgaria fight on the side of Germany? Weren't they fighting for a victory that would have meant their own subjugation or death under a victorious Nazi regime?
