Emperor Claudius regularised the practice of granting Roman citizenship to non-citizen auxiliaries after 25 years military service. Was this benefit worth the military service? Was this used regularly by non-romans?

According to a recent AskReddit comment Mansa Musa inflated the price of gold so high that it became near worthless for the next decade. Accordingly European traders brought gold back to Europe where it was still valuable thus sparking the renaissance. How much of this is true?
