How far do you have to go beneath the ocean floor before the earth becomes dry again?

Bear with me if this is a convoluted question, but if you when straight up in the air 30k feet say in Chicago and the same in London, would the distance between the two be the same at ground level and at 30k feet due to the curvature of the earth?
