Were "throne rooms" purely ceremonial, or did kings actually spend hours a day just sitting in one place? Surely there must have been a better way for a king to spend his time.

What is the history of calisthenic exercises? Did the concept of push-ups, squats, crunches, etc spread across cultures or did they develop separately? How many pull-ups could the average soldier in antiquity do?
